When the weather starts to get cold I get the urge to use my slow cooker. When I think of using my slow cooker, I think of the Crockpot 365 blog (http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/). I LOVE this gluten free blog! Especially since I have a 30 minute drive to and from work everyday, and when I get home it’s dark outside. I like to either prepare the food in the morning and let it cook all day, or prepare it before I go to bed and let it cook overnight. Either way, almost every recipe I’ve tried from this blog has turned out great! The couple that did not just needed a little change to the cooking time.
Yesterday I made shepherd’s pie, let it cook while I was at work, and it turned out so good! (http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2011/06/slow-cooker-vegetarian-chili-shepherds.html) The only changes that I made to the recipe are that I added ground beef, and extra spices. I add extra spices to every recipe! I am half Hungarian, after all. With the ground beef; I partially cooked it in a skillet, and let it cool before adding it to the crockpot. I used one pound of beef. If I had time when I got home, I would have let it cook longer with the lid off, it had quite a bit of liquid still in it. I will definitely cook this one again!
I hope you go check out this fantastic blog, and bring your crockpot out of hibernation. If you don’t have a slow cooker, you will definitely want to get one after looking at this blog! Make sure you get one with a timer, it will make your life so much easier. Enjoy!
